The New Girl

Filed under: Our Work,Pictures — Adam Heine @ 7:29 PM

If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you may be aware that Pancake is coming to us in one week.

So for those just tuning in, Pancake (whom we will be naming Asia–more on that in a sec) is a 3-year-old blind girl that we are in the process of adopting. Unfortunately, Thai law usually disallows parents from having the child in their home until the adoption process is complete (and double-unfortunately, that process takes 1-2 years). Asia got an exception because she is considered “special needs.”

Great for us (and for Asia). Also great because it means that at least some of the people involved in the process trust us with her, even knowing that we have 9 other kids. Hopefully those in Bangkok making the final adoption decision will feel the same way. We’ll see.

Ever since we decided to adopt her, we knew we would change her name. Cindy asked God for a name and heard Asia which means “sunrise” or “resurrection,” both of which are highly appropriate, we thought.

Thanks for your prayers on this, and KEEP PRAYING. Cuz now is the hard part: adapting the family to yet another new kid. It’s never easy, but it always starts to feel normal after a month or two. Hopefully this will be the same.

  1. Asia is gorgeous (the name and the girl)! I’m still rooting for keeping Pancake as a middle name! 🙂 My boys will be excited to hear her new name (they still remember Pancake from the first time I told them you might be adopting).

  2. We will be praying for all of you as you go through the transition! Love her new name! (And agree that “Pancake” should be kept somehow.)
