Our Helper

This is Da (and Asia and Pan), and ever since the four kids moved in from Ban Suk Jai, Da has been our helper Monday through Friday. We are often asked how we handle all these kids without going crazy. Da is a large part of our answer.

She was one of the house parents at Ban Suk Jai before it closed, so having her here made the transition much easier for Sarah, Joel, Sam, and Josiah when they came. She made the transition easier for us too, as she took care of tasks we suddenly had no time for (like laundry and cooking lunch). Our house has calmed down a lot since then, and there are times we think we could actually do this without her, but personally I don’t want to even try.

She’s a blessing to us, and we try to be a blessing to her. The kids love her. Anica, in particular, looks forward to her coming everyday (and Anica’s amazing Thai is largely due to Da’s influence).

She’s incredibly thankful just to have a job, but she also loves the kids. She’s ridiculously patient, hard working, and grateful to be here. She recently told me she was really happy to have two bosses as kind and thoughtful as we are, which is weird cuz I don’t think of her as my employee.

Anyway, I just wanted you to know about this member of our family and how awesome she is.

  3. It is so great to see the children from Ban Suk Jai that my sister and I came to love more and more each time we visited them. And yes, Da is an amazing lady, so willing to help and always made us feel sooooo welcome. Please let her know that Narelle and Glenda from Australia send her their love. We hope that we will be able to come and visit Thailand again and come to visit with you while we are there. Narelle Lewis – Australia
